Inspired by the technical properties of Chinese hats and bridges, the nearly complete Centre Pompidou-Metz will be a satellite branch of the Centre Pompidou modern art museum in Paris.Architects Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines designed the building to have a “superstructure” – a curved roof made of wooden hexagonal units supported by a central metallic spire and four conical pillars. The large surface area of this signature roof element covers a collection of interior spaces where three galleries unite.

This Metal Shutter Houses was designed by Japanese Designer Shigeru Ban in WestChelsea. Starchitects are all over New York, giving an extra value to new condos inManhattan. A few months ago i visted the Herzog & de Meuron and Bernard Tschumi projects on the lower east side, and they looked quite impressive.

On this building, Shigeru Ban once again innovates on the material use by incorporating motorized perforated metal shutters on its -dynamic- facade, which act as light-modulating privacy screen at the outer edge of each residence’s terrace adjacent to the double-height living rooms.
